Moving to Phoenix has been a huge transition for me because I feel surrounded by chains. It just so happens that I also didn't take a job somewhere sweet (Central Phoenix) but rather in the West Valley. I live less than a five minute drive from Westgate. So, I find myself drinking there more often than I'd like to admit. Shhhhh. When it comes to the bars in Westgate, I'd have to say Hell's Half Acre is probably my favorite. Remember, I am strictly comparing bars in Westgate. So, if you end up in this area and want a decent place to drink, I'd say, go for it. Some other random things: They have Blue Moon on tap which makes me happy, play a random selection of music (country, hip hop, radio pop) from a variety of decades. The women's bathroom is tiny which bothers me (bad planning). The bar layout is cool, with a small back patio, lots of couches and huge mirrors. Sometimes the waitress dance on the bar, which makes it a bit trashier than I prefer, but I don't think anyone is really complaining. The service is usually pretty reliable, although it can get crowded leading to a natural wait time. Check it out if you are in the area and need a drink!
