We've been going to Zoom Room since last September and love it so much. My Henry is now 9 months old, and his behavior has improved SO MUCH since I first started bringing him to the Zoom Room last fall, that even his vet has noticed his significant improvement and has started recommending her patients there. Henry's biggest issue from the beginning has been getting him to focus and calm down when he gets overly excited/escalated (imagine sweet, precious puppy one second and then all of a sudden full-blown Tasmanian devil OUT OF CONTROL). His impulse control has improved SO MUCH and even yesterday we learned a new game in our lesson with Shana that helps Henry focus, reduces his brain's release of stress hormones, and helps him be calm. I was so impressed by how quickly he picked up his new calm-down game, and I get so proud of him now when we play! We practiced today before I left for work, and he has so much fun playing his new game (little does he know it's actually teaching him self control). I love that I can now communicate in a way with Henry that is fun and stress-free for BOTH of us. In other news, we were walking in a parking lot yesterday and a stranger began to approach and asked if she could pet Henry. One of the techniques we've really been working on is greeting strangers calmly and politely (aka: all four paws on the ground, not pulling on the leash toward the stranger as they approach OR as they walk away). Henry did such an amazing job meeting this young lady... he was calm, did not jump (because he's now learned that jumping up means the person he wants to greet no longer gets to greet him), and he did not pull on the leash or try to follow her as she walked away. The lady he met was SHOCKED when I told her Henry is still a puppy (only 9 months old) and told me "even my 3 year old dog can't greet someone without jumping up on them." So I smiled, and said "Go to the Zoom Room." I also love that they offer workshops based on specific needs; Henry is currently enrolled in a new workshop starting this weekend specifically tailored for Golden Retrievers/Doodles to help them calm down and work on impulse control. I've tried 3 different training companies in the Charlotte area, and Zoom Room is BY FAR the best (it's also the ONLY one of the 3 companies that I tried that does not use pain or shock collars). I honestly initially did not believe it would be possible to train Henry without using a shock collar, but the amazing staff at Zoom Room quickly proved me wrong after just one class. I've now done the research and read the most recent scientific studies myself, and I'm convinced that positive reinforcement training is the best way to go, for both my dog and for me!
