There are a fair number of Thai restaurants in Madison, but many of them feel a little formulaic--for example, at Sa Bai Thong I always know exactly what I will get in my dish. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. At Suwanasak, you really get more of the impression of "home cooking" where the cook adds a little bit of this and that to make the dish. When we ordered, the food was made from scratch so that spicy pepper smells filled the air (and made us cough a little) and the curry had tons of freshly chopped herbs and veggies in it. The restaurant is very sparse and not much seating (which is fine with me) and the prices are lower than most other Thai places. If you like Thai food, I recommend you try it and support this business as this family is just starting their new business.
