Just do it. Just go. And go again. Amazing natural wonder just 30 or so minutes from the Strip, through the interesting suburban neighborhood of "Summerlin." People who compare it to Sedona or Grand Canyon or other natural canyons are missing the boat. It would be like comparing your neighbor's big yellow Hummer to your 1973 Ford Pinto. It's just not a comparison...One is big and burly and impressive. One is classic and small and impressive. They each have something to offer.
What Red Rock has to offer are sterling and deeply beautiful views of red rocks, caverns, hills, mountains, and a lush desert landscape. It is always serene and tranquil, sometimes bright and sunny, sometimes gloomy, but always engaging. It is never boring, no matter how many times you go.
There are different levels of hiking, some of which have great views of waterfalls, old Native American haunts, or even the Las Vegas Strip. You will not be disappointed, particularly if you bring an open mind and a childlike sense of wonder.
Go on a weekday, if possible, for more quiet and privacy. You can purchase a membership for the year for $30, or you can pay about $15 each time, per vehicle (not per person--unless you are in a commercial tour vehicle, and then it is normal prices plus a per person fee). It's only $5 per pedestrian, or $10 per motorcycle. You can take your journal, your camera, and your meditative spirit. Terrific place to take highly coveted social media-worthy pictures, too! Enjoy!
