While the day time views are beautiful and very scenic.. The night time ones are what's worth reviewing. If you take the calico basin road for as far as it'll go (past houses..) there is a little dirt lot at the dead end where you can drive through a fenced area and park your car. The lights from the city are over the other side of the mountains, so you can get a really good, unobstructed view of the stars in Vegas without having to be up in the mountains! There are always a few cars there, but people are generally pretty quiet and it's a big enough area where you don't have to park right next to people.. So you can really enjoy the view. It's definitely a good place to stargaze, especially if you live more on the west side of town and want to stay local.
