Moved from another state that I thought had a difficult cable TV/Internet company. They are wonderful compared to Cox, because Cox is that bad. Like Katie said, comcast is a wonderful company compared to Cox. Cox raises rates often, several times a year is not uncommon (e.g. raised in Feb, then Oct, then Jan - so 3 raises within 12 months). While their web page says the rate is for 12 months, in reality they raise it much sooner. When asked, they say well the 12 months is their "desires" but sometimes they need to raise it sooner and they can raise it every month if they want to. They will move you up to a higher plan and tell you the lower plan no longer exists. They tell you (fine print of bill, buried under "news") that they are doing you a great favor and increasing your data. But they also increase the bill by $10 - of course that information is buried somewhere else. If you call, they don't say that they made a new lower plan at your old level and you can stay at that level if you want (with no bill increase). You have to go look on their web page for new customer offers to see that your old level is there at a lower rate and then tell them you see that and insist on them putting you at that level. It is like the reps get a cut for pushing you onto and keeping you at higher plans, regardless if you are using that much data. Billing is ridiculous: 1) They repeatedly took out money out of my account when the bill was paid in full and nothing was due. They kept saying they didn't know why it was happening and it would not happen again, but a day or so later and they would take out another payment again. I had to get the bank to block them to get them to stop taking out money. 2) They take forever to process payments mailed in, they blame it on the postal service saying it can take 2 weeks or longer to send a letter across town (it takes 1 day) rather than admit they might be having problems processing it. 3) If you pay ahead (e.g. when they can't process a payment so you have to go to the store to make an extra payment), so now you are paid a month ahead, they do not send you a bill for the next month. They are unable to send you something that would show your payments, their charges, or their "news" that they are raising rates again. They can't even see that "bill" themselves. Customer service: They can't seem to read a bill at all. It is like talking to an 8th grader who didn't study for the test and has no idea what the basic ideas are let alone how to answer a question. They can read off the bills, but they can't put several bills together to see an overall picture. It seems so beyond them they don't even really seem to try. Connecting service is horrible: It took over a month to get service set up correctly. They didn't connect it up right at the street and the tech they sent out said ridiculous things like if your cell phone is within 4' of their cable wall connector then your internet won't work. [Wrong, maybe he is thinking high voltage household wires within 1' of the cable will mess it up. Obviously our phones are not that high voltage or we could not hold them.] The downtown office and the techs are not highly informed. The phone techs finally figured out the downtown techs didn't know how to set up the current technology gateways/modems and were shocked since they had been using it in their town for over a year.
