Have I mentioned how much I love having a locally owned, non-profit, organic grocery store right down the street from my house? 'Cause I love it. A lot. Throw in the fact that it doubles as a vocational training program for people and it just gets better.
If you're not into the feel-good, bleeding heart side of things there's still plenty to love. Their produce is always good quality and is well within the "reasonable" price range, especially for the organics. You're paying way less here than you will at EarthFare or Whole Foods for items that are every bit as good.
The prepared food is delicious as well. I had a black bean, chicken, and corn burrito from their deli counter for dinner tonight and it was fantastic. It was also only $3.
They also have a small (but surprisingly good) beer and wine selection, a phenomenal tea section, a wide range of natural beauty products, and plenty of supplements. All of these are as reasonably priced as everything else in the store and are equitable to what you'd pay somewhere else. My Burt's Bees face wash is the same price here as it is at Target, and I'd much rather give the money to a local business.
The downside is that it is on the small side, so it can get a little cramped. And if you're looking for something super specific, you might strike out. You can't do better for produce or everyday staples, but if you need that rare ingredient you might not find it here. Also, like I said before, it doubles as a vocational training program, so bear that in mind if you find yourself getting frustrated. Everyone I've ever dealt with has always been super friendly and helpful, and you can feel better knowing that you're eating healthy food and helping someone better themselves at the same time.
Ditch the overpriced, chain grocery stores! You can eat healthy, support your local community, and save money all in one spot.
