We had seen Carmine's during our recent shopping trip to The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace and decided to give it a try for dinner prior to attending the April 30 Elton John concert. The ambience is casual and New York Italian (as am I) with a lot of energy in the air. It was prom night so there were several groups of prom goers who as an aside looked great all decked out. To say Carmine's serves "family style" is a little misleading unless you come from a large family. The portions are huge. Our waiter advised my wife and I to stick to a single entrée and order it over pasta (for $12 upcharge) rather than ordering a separate pasta dish for twice the price. We took his advice and had the chicken parmesan over spaghetti and really enjoyed it.One note, Carmine's has a Food Valet service, at no charge, which was a new term for me but what they do is box up your leftovers, keep them in a refrigerator and deliver it to you when you check back in at their front desk when you return after whatever you're doing after dinner. We tried it out and it worked perfectly so tonight is a repeat of last night's dinner. The couple next to us ordered a Caesar's salad which looked to be 1 1/2 heads of Romaine lettuce. They each had two or three dishes worth of salad and hadn't made a dent in it so after repeated offers by them I tried the salad. It was quite good; stronger on the anchovy taste than garlic but really pretty mild. I saw their spaghetti and meatballs which like everything else was huge. Given portion sizes the prices at Carmine's are very reasonable; cheap by The Strip restaurant standards. The service was excellent and everything we tried tasted very good. I will definitely return but I'd like to have two other couples with us so we can try a couple more entrees. Three couple with three entrees will mean leftovers for all.
