While I've always loved going shopping at Southpark mall, but I now see it in a new light. I was recently injured in an accident and can only "walk" (hop on one leg) with the aide walker. My mother and I planned to go to the mall on Saturday 2/28, so I looked online and called about how to obtain a wheelchair to get around. Not only was it impossible to speak to a human being but the website was extremely non-descript on where exactly I needed to enter the mall so as to have the easiest and shortest "walk." Why do I need to get into the middle of the mall to get a wheelchair?? If one is handicapped the process of getting to the middle of the mall to obtain one is extremely difficult. There are no signs at the mall telling you where you should park for convenience of getting to guest services nor are there wheelchairs available by valet, which would make more sense. Stop and drop off your person in need making it easy to get in and out of the mall.
Once getting to the mall we went through Dicks which is a huge store and a lot of work when you are hopping on one leg with a walker. Nobody had any clue how to get into mall and where to find wheelchairs. We finally realized the distance was too great (and again difficult and exhausting using a walker) so we tracked down a security officer who directed us to go through the container store entrance. Again, no signs for ease of accessibility. Finally I had my mother go in and get the wheelchair and come get me in parking lot. There is NO way I would have made it in on my own.
I find it shameful for this mall to make it so extremely difficult for those who are disabled and want to patronize the establishment. Simon Malls you need to do better.
