  • Oh yeah, I've been here before. Uh-huh, back in the early 90's when I was a puppyish bean counter for a brokerage firm that had a data center down in Phoenix. I remember being impressed with the open-atrium concept and the fact that I snagged a suite when my studio apartment at the time was about half the size. I thought I was being treated royally by my unsuspecting company. Flash forward a few decades later and I am neither a puppy nor a bean counter, and to this cynical curmudgeon, everything looked pretty dated to me (photo: http://bit.ly/2Dxuhys). The same suite now looks a bit worn for wear, and I didn't care to have a window next to the front door where any passerby could look at me with my incidentals fully exposed. Without realizing my past history with the hotel, I recently stayed there because I was getting tired of the hotels that my company insisted I stay at near the offices down there in Glendale. The East Camelback Road location was nice because it was within walking distance of the Biltmore Fashion Park where I could window shop and dine rather healthily at True Food Kitchen (review: http://bit.ly/2BT7Zqn). It was also a short drive to the Arizona Biltmore where I could enjoy the grounds of a fancier hotel known for its faux-Frank Lloyd Wright architecture (review: http://bit.ly/2EfVxCO). Otherwise I thought my Queen non-smoking suite was a reasonable accommodation for $101 per night. The complimentary breakfast was served down in the ground floor of the atrium among the koi pools and footbridges, although the bland food was no match for the Disney World-like surroundings. Parking wasn't as much of a challenge as I expected since the lot looked rather small.
