  • On Friday night, I was visiting Pittsburgh and went to this bar. I'm a woman of Indian descent, and was harassed by the bartender - who may also be the bar owner. I was at the bar waiting for a drink, and he physically touched my face in order to draw a dot on my forehead. I immediately started crying - the day before, I'd read news of a man from my part of India who was killed in a bar in Kansas. This man was subsequently rude to me. I have never experienced anything like this - ever, in my life. Never felt so targeted or like my personal boundaries were so violated. I told another bartender, who ignored me, and just told the initial person. There was nothing we could do, so we paid our bill and left. I was still crying. I want to be clear that this was not a joke or something that can be ignored. It was a hostile and horrible racist act, and I hope others don't support a business like this. Visiting this bar in this political climate, is a political act. In the airport now, leaving Pittsburgh, I'm still crying at this memory.
