| - Let me just preface this review with "All Party City's Are Not Managed Alike".
As a parent of small kids that celebrate birthdays, holidays, graduations and more, I shop party city quite a bit. I have changed my Party City store to Cactus Road as I would NEVER give this Happy Valley facility and it's ill informed and ill trained staff a penny of my hard earned money.
I went into the Happy Valley Party City yesterday to return a Fog Machine I had purchased just 2 days earlier. When I walked through the door, I was not greeted with a Welcome to Party City how can I help you or a hello how are you. Instead, A girl at the balloon counter yelled down to me past 5 customers standing in line and said a simple "You can't return that"! After such a warm greeting I was totally looking forward to my return process. I was told by no less than 2 girls at the front counter as they pointed to a MS Word Document someone created and taped to the countertop, that Halloween Items cannot be returned or exchanged after the 31st. The receipt I have for my purchase (unlike the Word Document that I am sure was NOT on the counter when I made my purchase as the white paper was fresh and not dirty at all from items being slid across it for days on end) is time and date stamped and simply says "Returns on Halloween costumes, decorations and accessories by Oct 21st with original receipt. Only Exchanges will be accepted after Oct 21st with original receipt."
I was told by the Manager of the store that "I will not return or exchange that item as it is after the 31st and company policy states that fact. I mentioned how it said no returns, only exchanges after the 21st on the receipt but says nothing about the 31st. She said "Sorry sir, I will not exchange that item period."
I got a little irate at the fact that my receipt and the document on the counter stated completely different rules and return policies. I left the store upset at their lack of willingness to assist as well as the fact that my receipt said I could exchange and the homemade sign on the counter said I couldn't.
Once we got home, my wife decided to call another Party City, the facility on Cactus Road at PV Mall to see if they would exchange it for us. The guy who answered said "You can return it for YOUR MONEY BACK if you want to as fog machines are an EVERYDAY ITEM at Party City and not part of the Halloween Return Policy". WHAT?
I called 3 other party cities to verify before we drove over and every one said, "Fog Machines are an every day item at Party City and not a part of the Halloween return policy". I took my machine to The Cactus Road facility and walked out with my money in less than 5 minutes, no questions asked, and they did it with a smile.......as it should be.
The Happy Valley Location could learn a thing or six from the other facilities on customer satisfaction. Never tell someone what you "Can't" do, just let them know what you "Can do". Also, The Manager at Happy Valley should read the corporate return policies and make herself aware of what products in her store are seasonal and what products are not.
I was subject to an onslaught of bad information and inept seasonal employee knowledge and even more inept management and will NEVER spend another penny at the Happy Valley location.....I recommend you don't either.
The Cactus Road facility will more than gladly take your money and do it with a smile.
