| - I had a trip booked for Miami and had to pull it last minute - due to board meeting. A board that I belongs to, a board filled with some of the muckety-mucks of the Valley and the City and everywhere in between. Believe it or not, I do work for a (modest) living, and I didn't want to let my vacation interfere with work. Then this stay came along.
I was taken by surprise with this hotel. It's no Park Hyatt Tokyo, but it's swanky in its own ways. Its mid century Americana modern is what it is known for, but it goes beyond that. It has a post modern sensibility that made this place pop.
Palm trees. A chic pool party scene. Nice drinks served at pool side. Two hot tubs. And finally, a two piece only bathing suit scene like you'd see in Europe. I have a pet peeve with one piece. It felt so great grandma-ish. Years of in and out of Europe made me realize that unless you are age 90 or above, you don't wear 1 piece suit. This pool obviously post no such mandate, it just seems to have more patrons donning two piece. Suits me, I only packed two piece bathing suit.
If lounging by the pool gets too hot, switch over to the balcony, oversized yet private enough to do what you please.
If being with people seemed too exhausting, there is a quiet pool and a lap pool. Both make wonderful exercise opportunity if you are in need of heeling of a bad knee (which I was).
The rooms are exceptionally large. A separate shower and soaking tub. Good amenities. No bugs whatsoever. Considering this is a 90 some degree weather, not bad. In the evening, the lush landscape does bring down the heat down a notch. Very comfortable if you leave your balcony door open.
We arrived amidst a storm up in San Francisco. Only two hours away, in this hotel, we seemed to have been transported to the sunny, yet hurricane free, Miami. Occasionally, while soaking in the tub, I look up, only palm trees, and blue sky. Not one single cloud in the sky. At 9:30 pm I was in bed. There I laid with eyes closed, every single part of my body relaxed. My mind wandered to Miami mid 90s, where I had been in and out of often, with a man 8 years senior than I, who worked for the U.S. embassy in a Caribbean country. While this was not Miami, this property gives that same kind of vibe, with every piece of the decor done just so to impress.
I was bewildered and enchanted. I was not seeking nostalgia, but nostalgia found me. Here, I was once again this 22 year old wild eyed girl fallen in love for the first time.
