| - Horrible experience with the groomer, Angela!
I have a 7 month old Bernedoodle pup who gets very excited in new places, as he absolutely loves people. After reading some good reviews, I first called to confirm they have experience with large breed, high energy puppies like mine. They stated that they take their time to ensure the pup's first grooming experience is a good one, and use positive reinforcement only. I thought "Great!", and scheduled a full groom.
However, when I brought my dog in, the groomer was incredibly unfriendly and short-answered, didn't want to touch my dog (ummm, you're a groomer?), and immediately stated she likely wouldn't be able to get him on the table/groom him. While I understand excited puppies can be more challenging, this is not what I expected from a place that assured me their experience in this area.
After I requested to come down and see the grooming area (at this point, mostly to ease my mind leaving him in this ladies hands), she reached for the grooming tool, turned in on, and quickly shoved it into his neck. He (obviously) backed away timidly and she proceeded to chase him around the room and corner him with the grooming tool, stating "see, he doesnt like it, I wont be able to groom him". She REPEATEDLY told me I need to train him better and he can't be groomed, while I explained that I didnt feel that was the proper approach, and suggested instead to turn the tool on and allow him to approach it and become accustomed (which I learnt from his puppy training classes, thanks).
As a professional who works with dogs, it shocked me to see her intimidate him like that, and I knew right away that this would not be a good experience for him, so I took my dog and got the heck out of there.
Dog owners beware, I would NOT trust how your dog is being treated by this groomer/spa.
