| - I will open this review with a recommendation: come here for the pasta. The pasta was spectacular. If I come back it will be just to have a pasta course, maybe will even try 2 pastas. The primi and piatti are forgettable and not worth the money.
Here's the full review:
The room is pretty plain. I've done a lot of traveling for work and it reminded me of a standard upscale hotel restaurant. It actually reminded me a lot of the Keg in The Westin in Calgary, but without the fireplaces.
Primi: I had the Grilled Mediterranea Octopus, my date had the Tuna "Susci". The Tuna was nice and fresh, but plain and couldn't really taste the truffles. The octopus was cooked nice and tender, however it was evident that it was a bit old from a fishy smell that piles of capers attempted to disguise. The description said "crispy potatoes" but they were completely mushy. The entire dish was very soft and gave the impression that it may have been reheated. All in all both apps were just ok, definitely not worth the price tag.
Paste: This was by far the star of the show. I had the Duck & Foie Gras Ravioli, my date had the Agnolotti Dal Plin. Both were fresh, tasty and just fantastic. The pickled mustard seeds in the agnolotti gave an incredibly pleasing texture and flavour. The pasta was fresh, delicate and made with care. The ravioli was equally delicious and the beautifully displayed triangle shapes made me feel like I was eating special little pockets of delight. Both sauces were very light and complimented the stuffed pastas without competing with the flavour. If we had only ordered pastas this would be a 5 star review.
Piatti: I had the Balsamic Glazed Duck Breast, my date had the Pork Chop (not currently on their online menu). The chop was good, not great. It was a surprisingly huge portion after the other delicate dishes. The fatty end of the chop, we guessed, had been deep fried after cooking which my date thoroughly enjoyed and was a nice touch. The disappointment of this dish were the sour cherries (which were highlighted on the menu) had no flavor. The duck breast was a big let down. It was cooked well but was tough, not a good piece of duck and under-seasoned. I believe it was under-seasoned because the dish included large pieces of speck which when eaten with the duck gave it the saltiness it needed, but the flavour of the speck was way too strong for this dish. I started picking it out because it was all I could taste and when you order duck, you kinda want it to taste like duck.
The service was attentive and polite. Our server gave a good suggestion for wine but couldn't answer some questions we had about one of the dishes. Overall it was an enjoyable evening. I just find for these prices there are better restaurants in Toronto. However as I said, it would be worth it to go and try the pastas.
