I love this trailhead. It is particularly fantastic at sunset time when the crowds are light and you can watch the sun go down over the valley. To the lookout it is aboit 6 miles roundtrip- it takes me about 1:20 hiking and running. Great views from the lookout as well. It is ranked moderate but honestly if I was a beginner I would think this was on the difficult side unless you slowed the pace way down. Slippery in parts so use caution - I have the scars to show for it. The recent trail maintenance is outstanding- even the views of Four Peaks from the parking lot will take your breath away. Highly recommend.
Updated to add- note- if you go towards pemberton and McDowell regional park bring a map! And even then leave extra time. My "rest day " 4 miles turned into 10...and running through ankle deep sand isn't awesome.
