  • My wife won a deal for this place in a charity auction, so we decided to make a family excursion. My first suggestion is, no matter how hot it is, wear heavy clothing like jeans and a sweatshirt, perhaps a bandanna to protect your neck because pellets can sting. When we got there, they fitted us out with airsoft guns, chest protectors, helmet with face masks and ammunition. You can take your helmet off in the staging area, but you need eye protection in case of accidental weapons discharges. If you wear glasses, you are fine but if not you need Airsoft rated goggles. I found a few pair for $10 at Big 5 the day before we went. Once you are in the staging area, the staff divide you into two teams and explain the rules of the games that you will be playing. As each session lasts 4 hours, you get the chance to play quite a few games. Some games just involve shooting at the other team, while some have an objective such as capturing an ammunition case or controlling a "bomb" for the most time. After that, it's time to play, they let each team in on opposite sides of the field and then it's time to go. The giant room where the battles take place is filled with walls, towers, and other barricades that you have to maneuver around and hide behind. When you are shot, you have to make your way to the back wall, high five the "respawn" sign and then get back into action. While there are referees in the game, players are supposed to police themselves. However, cheaters can be kicked out or suspended for a game if they are caught. Luckily, most people play fair and the pellets sting enough that's it's easy to know when you are hit. Unless you're with a group that plays regularly, it's hard to actually use any tactics like clearing a room or advancing on the enemy, but it's fun to try. My oldest son ran into a group of friends from his high school and joined their team for a while. There are clearly some people who come here regularly and who have their own gear and equipment. Some even looked like they were ready to head out to Afghanistan! Also, when you want a break they have a snack bar with drinks and pizza. This was a fun family activity for us and would definitely be a great outing for a birthday party, a group of friends or a team building activity for coworkers.
