My wife and I first met one of the owners of the Cold Room a little over a year ago when he worked at a different bar in the Plateau area. We enjoyed his company and perfectly crafted cocktails. When we learned he had opened a new bar in the old port we were enthused to check if out. Enthusiasm led to intrigue as we learned of the mysterious black door and doorbell that granted entry to this speakeasy style bar. Clues such as #followtheduck only added to the mystery.
What we found did not disappoint.
Upon entering the bar, we were enveloped by a dimly lit narrow room with stone walls, comfortable furnishings and industrial finishes. Our first round of drinks (a Sazerac and the Last Word) were crafted with care and delivered the perfect balance of pallet-pleasing flavors we'd hoped for. Next we opted for the classic Old Fashioned, which my wife and I agreed were the best we've had anywhere. If you have the pleasure of being at The Cold Room when Aidan is tending bar, do yourself a favor and order one.
All in all, a great experience and atmosphere topped off with perfectly crafted cocktails and personable, knowledgeable bartenders. We cannot recommend The Cold Room enough and plan to make it one of our regular stops every time we visit Montreal. Good things are definitely in store for this newly established bar and lounge!
