| - I'm only giving it 2 stars because the rides were cool and the bird show was cool. The food is over-priced. My boyfriend and I paid $40 for 3 things. We made sure to bring cash and our own water, fortunately we didn't have to pay outrageous atm fees or getting $3 drinks. The alcohol is costly as well $6 for domestic $7 for craft $8 for wine $9 for a weak cocktail. It's like they charge for everything. We spent $120 and all we did was watch the ostrich race, watched the bird show (remember it's better than the ostrich race) have 1 cocktail, eat 3 things, and go on 7 rides. We went there at 1pm and left around 9:30pm.
The DUST is ridiculously abundant! You can see it hovering over the ride area. I've been sick for two days! Hacking, coughing, wheezing, chest pain, the works! My boyfriend and I couldn't take it anymore. The only fresh air was on a ride or out of the park. Each line for a ride was an hour and a half long. We timed it! I would rather go to the slums of Phoenix fair than ever have to endure that again. Save your money for the Ren fair.
Now the ostrich race... It was entertaining for the first half hour of the actual show. First of all the brochure said it starts at 4pm well it's a lie. The show starts at 5pm. They are promoting their sponsor at 4pm and there's a wing eating contest that you can only see if you decide to sit in the sun. It's like going to the movies and watching the same commercial for an hour. This is followed by a nat geo lesson, then a parade, then the confused ostriches doing a half circle, then an almost catastrophic chariot race with ostriches, a zebra race, and of course children chasing emus and ducks. Well the last part seems great for the kids until you hear 3rd place gets a Hendrix free camel ride and 2nd place gets a Hendrix free camel ride, and 1st place gets nothing jk a Hendrix free camel ride. Yeah let you kids hopes be shattered for winning then built back up and be given nothing special. Don't forget the product placement being drilled into your head. Nope you can't escape commercials not even at a family outing. By the way he used the same joke twice. Kids are smarter than you think. The least he could do is give first place umm TWO pony/camel rides.
Everything cost extra so if you want to experience anything outside of the late in the day ostrich race. Cough it up it's going to cost you at least a days wages. That is if you don't bring the kids then it's well more. Good luck finding shade or seats to eat your food!
Note: people at this event smoke cigarettes everywhere!!! In line, at the picnic area, in the toilets (yes I was choking on it in the port-a-potty), the walkways, the bleachers. What's worse is nobody stops them!!! If I did have a kid I wouldn't bring them anywhere near this place for fear of them developing emphysema at an early age.
Tips: bring your own water.
bring cash, not card
bring sunscreen
bring plenty of spending money
pre-game drink
bring your own lunch
bring a dust mask
bring lots of patience because he says Hendrix more than I say bring lol.
Hope this helps!
