Oak and Ivy is a cool bar tucked away in the gorgeous container park with a well thought out menu. My only gripe is with the bartenders who seemed to lack attentiveness and who struggled to balance multiple customers.
I came in at about 10:30 on a Saturday night and found that it wasn't too busy. There were only 3 parties of folks along the bar. When I entered, I noticed that the bar is a lot smaller than I expected and despite this, wasn't greeted upon entering.
There were two bartenders on shift and both were busy chatting with different parties at each end of the bar. It took about 10 minutes to be acknowledged by one of them and finally allowed to place an order. I went with the Brown Sugga Momma cocktail after having about a minute to review the menu that I managed to swipe from one of the other parties. The bartender started making the drink and then got the others' attention and asked him to ring me up (revealing that both were available to help the entire time).
When I got the drink and paid the $14 tab, I was happy with the flavor profile of the drink. The sweet was nicely balanced by a deep hearty smokiness imparted by the whiskey and finished with a smooth creamy mouthfeel thanks to the egg white.
The outdoor seating area is nice with plenty of heaters for the chilly winter months.
Overall, I like the look and feel of Oak and Ivy and enjoyed my cocktail for the price. I'd simply encourage the bartenders to keep their heads on a swivel and constantly work to make their guests feel welcome. At about minute 7 or 8, I contemplated walking out and trying one of the other bars up the way. 3.5 stars.
