Just bought another new Lexus. As always, we researched prices on the Internet from dealers in AZ and CA but, obviously wanted to purchase the car locally. When we contacted the local dealer for their best price, we received the following email response from Lexus of Las Vegas:
"We are not discounting from MSRP on the 2018 models"
We responded by stating that we weren't willing to pay the full MSRP. Their response was:
"Ok, it's a very fair price on a 2018, with a $500 discount...what did you have in mind? "
To the contrary, this was most certainly not a "very fair price" whatsoever. In fact, all the other written offers that we had received were well over $3k below the MSRP! It was painfully clear that we weren't going to obtain a fair offer from this dealer. Sure we could have sent him a copy of the other offers, but it seemed like such an unethical thing to do. The other dealers initially provided us with very reasonable offers (without having to negotiate back and forth). So why on earth should we reward an unreasonable salesperson for someone else's reasonable and fair work?
We shall be purchasing a new ES 350 as soon as the F Sport model becomes available in 2019. At that time, we shall again solicit an offer from our local Lexus dealership. Hopefully, at that time they will initially provide us with a reasonable offer.
