| - I used to come to Fry's all the time, but I hadn't been inside for a few years, and wow, the place has gone downhill. It's clear that no one working here knows anything about sales or merchandising. They have a lot of stuff, but none of it is displayed in a way that makes you want it, and no one working there wants to deal with customers.
I got a new phone and thought I'd stop by Fry's for some accessories. Plus my wife has her eye on a new tablet. I walked to the back corner of the store, and there was a table with a bunch of tablets, mostly brands I've never heard of. Not powered up so you can try them out, not on stands. They looked like they'd been dumped out of a bin on the center of the table. They do have plenty of cases....
I remembered that phones and accessories were in the opposite corner of the store for some reason, so I headed that way. On the way I noticed their book section was gone, but they did have a large selection of knockoff fragrances. When did Fry's become a flea market?
The cell phone section was full of pre-paid phones and cases for phones that haven't been made in years. I did spot a new Samsung tablet on an end cap. Not sure why it was with phones and not the other tablets. And it seemed to actually be powered up! I went over and picked it up and an alarm went off. That's the first and only time I was noticed by one of the 100 employees, who had to stop talking to another customer to disassemble the display and turn off the alarm. At that point I gave up.
I used to like Fry's, but I'll never be back. I guess online shopping hasn't killed this place yet, but it's looking grim.
