  • I am a total spa junkie, so when I saw a special for this spa on TravelZoo, I snagged it. I have been to many spas at Phoenix resorts, and was excited to go to the Boulders. Unfortunately, it was my first ... and probably last...visit. The spa is pleasant enough upon arrival, but once I got to look around, I could see this was quite ordinary with a sad, impersonal, corporate vibe. I wasn't shown to my locker (some guy has basically tossed me a key) and had to find everything on my own. The lockers were extremely small and barely fit my purse. I even overheard a staff member apologizing to another spa guest about the cramped space inside the lockers. In addition, the spa snacks consisted of little plastic mouthwash-like cups that I could fill with fruits and nuts, and tea that basically dribbled into my cup. The waiting area was sparse and uncomfortable with ugly wicker furniture. In addition, there wasn't any music in the background, the floors were dirty, and the employees stood around talking noisily to each other, so I couldn't relax if I tried. The TravelZoo coupon also provided lunch, but imagine my surprise when I walked into the cafe with my robe to find other resort guests there...fully clothed! Not only was it uncomfortable but the food was mediocre as well. This spa should separate spa guests from hotel guests. Now, the one saving grace...AARON the male massage therapist. He provided THE BEST massage I've probably ever had...and I've been to a lot of spas! The temperature in the room was perfect, (and he had great music), and his techniques were awesome. So, even though the spa accommodations were way, way less than satisfactory for a Waldorf Astoria property, a massage with Aaron was worth it. If you go to this spa, lower your expectations for going to a great spa...but do reserve a massage with Aaron. He was worth the trip!
