| - If you're looking for a black and white mess of aesthetic Futuro is for you. Located in a seemly unmarked all white building in downtown Phoenix, Futuro is the definition of cool hipster vibes. Don't be fooled for the front doors are not actually the doors...more like large windows that trick your average normie into attempting to enter the building through them (totally not me...). Futuro's atmosphere is definitely a memorable one. The shop is a shared space with a hairstudio. The deco is white and black with accented muted colored chairs, glass tables, and white benches along the wall. If there's one thing this place values it's the "aesthetic".
Futuro likes to keep things unique throughout their coffee as well. Using 49th Parallel beans, a Canadian brand, this is probably the only AZ coffee shop you'll find cool enough to brew these beans. Recommended by the friendly barista I ordered the Tonico. The drink features tonic water and espresso. A trendy combo invading popular California coffee shops. The drink, of course, is very pleasing on the eye. The separation of fruity espresso and bubbly clear tonic water against the monotone backdrop of the shop warrants the perfect Instagram photo. A perfect example of my culinary teacher's repeating words, "You eat with your eyes first". The barista warned me not to stir, shake, or put a straw into my drink for it will, "explode". Perhaps a taller cup would solve this known problem with tonic and espresso drinks. I carefully sipped the top espresso to make room for the concoction to overfill to the top. The espresso was complex, pleasantly fruity, and lacking in any strong bitterness. When mixed with the distinct sweetness of the tonic water the drink was ruined for me. I oddly enough liked the carbonation. I think this concoction has plenty potential to be something great but the strange sweetness doesn't do it for me.
All in all a below average experience.
