| - The 39th fest just ended a few days ago and I am still experiencing some lingering sadness that I don't have hundreds of foreign and independent films a brief drive, ticket, and respectable wait-in-line away.
I really can't recommend experiencing a film at CIFF enough. They bring in an excellent variety of films and shorts and you'd have trouble going to any film that did not offer you a new perspective.
This year I was able to see two shorts programs (curations of short films) and six full-length features including:
-Angel Azul, a documentary combining art and environmental activism
-The Wolfpack: a doc about creative young men who grew up secluded in NY
-Alfred and Jakobine: about lovers who travelled the world in a British taxi, who
had a child and then separated, reuniting when the taxi restored.
-Who Am I: No System is Safe, a German techno-thriller
-I am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney story, about the man in the beloved bird
-Drunk, Stone, Brilliant, Dead: The story of the National Lampoon.
Some films at CIFF will be destined for wider release but, sadly, some may never be available for viewing here again. This is a very special local event that underscores Cleveland's status as a top entertainment and arts destination.
Also, I can't say enough about the experience of volunteering. It's a great way to learn more about the fest you meet some wonderful film-fans. They treat their volunteers exceedingly well and I always have a blast doing it!
