Some background: I normally rent from the more established companies and I only had to go with Nu because I had no choice (all other car rentals were sold out). This was my first time renting from Nu.
I'm rating them very low because of these points:
- The information on how to get to the shuttle that goes to the car rental location in the airport could be made better. When I ask airport staff where to go to "Viss"-count station (as described on the phone), I drew blank stares. Staff pronounce it "Vai-count" station.
- There was a lineup and processing a customer takes 5-15 minutes.
- This is my main beef: Obviously the company makes a ton of money from cross-selling insurance. To wit: Daily rate was quoted at $27/day. Insurance costs $12/day. I do not appreciate their policy to refuse to rent you a car without purchasing their insurance. My guess is they know people do not rent from them again so they push the insurance very hard.
- I booked via Expedia and I was given the impression I would be renting a Chrysler Sebring. Nu gave me a Hyundai Sonata.
- The car itself was OK, but it had scratches and bumps. So it's very important to be very thorough with the vehicle inspection.
I do not recommend Nu Car Rental at all. If you find yourself in the situation I was in (ie, every other place is sold out), lower your standards and you should be fine.
