"Tunnel number three smells a lot like pee" - Say that over and over again.
This is a great hike for the person looking to dip their toe in the proverbial hiking pool. The elevation changes are very smooth and only happen at the start of the hike. The rest of the trail is just a simple walk with an amazing view of Lake mead, or what's left of it, and some brief history lessons on the Railroad tunnels and the surrounding wildlife.
They are five tunnels to walk through with each being about twenty-five feet high and about three hundred feet long. The pictures don't really do the tunnels justice; it's definitely something to see in person. The hike is less than four miles one way and will most likely take you any where from two to three hours round trip depending on who you're with and how often you stop for a photo-op.
Get here early to avoid the crowds and kids. There were so many kids and strollers arriving to tunnel number one as we left and I was very happy that we were passing them, the echoes of their screams filled the tunnels and pathways which was enough to make anyone jump off the side of the trail.
Whether you call it a hike or easy walk? No matter, this is an a solid spot for some outdoor activities
