  • So, I had driven by this place a few times on my way from work, and while I like getting acrylics, I like finding economical places to have them done as well. Since, hey, they were cheap, I decided to stop in for a fill. My experience with acrylics has been that almost everyone can do an okay set of acrylics, not everyone can do a good fill. Guess I shouldn't have tested these guys with a fill, because they sucked. Pros- I didn't wait long for a walk-in appt Cons- When they sat me down, I waited for 10 minutes for a nail tech to get to me. One person doing my fill, and another person sitting beside her the whole time. Wasn't informed as to why she was there, as they chattered away the whole time I was there, and basically only spoke to me to tell me I screwed up my own nails. My impression of the person doing my nails was okay, but the other person was completely extraneous. I think she was tutoring the person doing my nails, but I couldn't tell, as they didn't speak English in front of me. Believe me. I'm not racist, but I also don't get a favourable impression when technicians carry on a long, humorous discussion on front of me. lol, Kay, not funny. If it's funny, share. As well, when I examined my nails while the acrylics were drying, they got pretty rude, and then tried to force me into a uv light. They then accused me of ruining my nails. I've been getting both acrylic and gel nails done for a couple of years. I've done them on myself as well. Acrylics don't need a uv lamp. Gels and shellac nails do. I work with ionizing radiation - I feel no need to expose myself to it unnecessarily. If I get gels or shellac, I choose that exposure. I don't like being shoved under a uv lamp for no valid reason. Acrylics cure by evaporation. So to be told I ruined my nails by not wanting to stick them under the lamp? Not cool. I did ask for a shellac colour and shellac top coat. Generally, a top coat is cured a total of 2 minutes under a uv lamp. If not less, depending on the manufacturer. They tried to stick me under the lamp for 5-6 minutes for each colour coat, and then for 15 minutes for the top coat. I cured my nails for approximately 2 min each time, based on my phone time, and quietly took my nails out when I thought I was good. My nail tech didn't notice for about 6 minutes, then got all pissed when she realized I had taken them out. While I was waiting for her to COME BACK AND DO MY NAILS she was ogling the new shellac shelving unit. She the put another coat of colour on, full of bubbles, left, and came back ten minutes later. Got mad again, because I wasn't keeping my hands under the lights for 10 minutes. Sloshed on a clear coat, left for 15 minutes, came back, and read me the riot act on how my nails were going to chip. Basically, I'm not a snob, but I left pretty pissed from this place. Please, don't assume your clients know nothing about nails. I get acrylics because gels tend to lift on me within a week, whereas I can get 2+ weeks out of acrylics nails. However, rest assured I have done my research on both. Please don't treat me like an idiot concerning my nails. The choice I make regarding acrylics is pretty well informed. I know the chemical reactions and and processes pretty well. DON'T APPRECIATE BEING TREATED AS AN IDIOT by someone who apparently can't do nails. My thinking is, if it hurts, you need to be better at your job. I left with my cuticles cut and bleeding, my nail beds filed too thin, and my final product unsatisfactory (full of bubbles).
