| - AE gets 2 stars for their misleading advertising.
I have NEVER paid someone to install a system for me. It's just not that complicated to do it yourself. Also, I have NEVER bought audio equipment from a shop, always online, it's 30-100% cheaper to buy online.
But I figured for a $1 install (that I have hear about on the radio at least 20 times since I've been here in Phoenix for 2 weeks), I would support an actual store and buy equipment from them. Obviously I wouldn't expect them to install equipment I brought from outside their store for just a dollar.
The $1 install ONLY applies to alarm systems and Single DIN headunits. For some reason, double DIN headunits are $55, and a Navigation headunit is $110....even if you buy it from them!! And apparently that's half of their standard rate!!! WTF? Let me tell you, there is NO difference in difficulty for installing a Single DIN vs Double DIN. None. None at all. It's just a bigger unit. Yes a Nav system takes just a little more as you have to wire the antenna somewhere. But not $110 dollars worth (or $220 if you bring in your own).
Even if you buy a single DIN head unit and speakers, they will still charge you to install the speakers ($65/pair). The $1 install literally only applies to the headunit itself.
So if you only need a single din HU or an alarm, sure, its not a bad deal. But if you want speakers and subs, watch a Youtube video and do it yourself.
