| - My move from Los Angeles to Dallas was quoted at $1084 based on the items I described to the salesman over the phone. He confidently GUESStimated that I would need about 300 cubic square feet for all my items. The movers showed up 3 hours late, showed me how tiny 300 cubic square feet was and upped my estimate to what they call the "worst case scenario" of $1500. They then abruptly left to meet another truck to hand off some paperwork. Upon their return 90 minutes later they loaded up my items and were on their merry way.
At this point let me back up to the original sales call. The con-artist I spoke to is a true salesman. He knows how to say everything possible to get your business. He will low ball the quote and very convincingly tell you "this is a very common route and you should have your items in 4-5 days." All an absolute lie. During one of my many calls to Elite, I was told that I had requested 300 cubic square feet. Another lie. This was the number told to me.
After about 5 days, I called the office and spoke with their staff, who were, in my opinion, all very friendly...but always had the same answer - "Dispatch will call you when your items are ready to ship. We don't give estimates of when it will leave because we don't want to give bad information. We don't have a way to contact logistics or dispatch." This back and forth went on for almost 2 weeks. My requests to speak to a manager fell on deaf ears since their appears to be nobody at Elite that actually cares about an angry customer.
20 days after pick up, my items arrived. The 18-wheeler was stuffed to the max and as they opened the back doors, my TV almost came falling off the truck. Luckily the movers caught it. I watched as they slowly began unloading my boxes and prayed that the leaning tower of cardboard wouldn't come tumbling down. As we went over the paperwork, my vacuum cleaner plummeted 13+ feet from the top of the pile and shattered into pieces. The driver did make note of that but I'm not expecting any miracles that I'll actually see a dime for it. Once they finished unloading, it came to my attention that the slats to my king bed had mysteriously disappeared. I called the office to have them check and was told "it normally takes a week to check the storage facility." That kind of turnaround time is inexcusable in any industry.
The only pro to this move was that the crew at pickup and delivery were both very nice. The same can be said about the 2 ladies I spoke with on the phone. They were never rude to me but were never very helpful...which I blame on the non-existent management.
The cons - everything else. They are liars from the get go and will say anything to get your business. The lack of communication is glaring. Boxes were stacked without care and several heavy boxes of books were placed on top of lighter boxes. It's a miracle nothing else was damaged.
I'm still waiting to hear about my missing bed slats but at this point it won't matter. I've had to go to Home Depot to buy the replacement parts and my request to have the $65 reimbursed will surely fall on deaf ears. The 60 cents per pound per item will amount to nothing after it's all said and done. I've moved 10 times in the last 10 years and this has been the worst experience by far.
If you've gotten this far in my review, RUN! If you can afford to go with a legit moving company, do it. Don't go for the false quotes that seem to good to be true, because they are. I have no idea how Elite has been in business for 10 years. They deserve to be put out of business. It's no wonder the last positive review on their website is from 2009.
