| - To celebrate my daughter's birthday this year, we did our traditional "pick a new restaurant" and we chose Nobuo At Teeter House. I placed a lunch reservation for seven through Open Table and requested something "sweet" for my daughter at the end of the meal.
We were shown to a room where some tables were put together to accommodate our group. First, the atmosphere is very relaxing and neutral, which we loved. None of us drink wine, in which they have an extensive wine and spirits list, so we were limited to teas. I would like to note that most of us were not used to drinking hot or cold tea without sugar, and the restaurant does not have sugar packets to sweeten the tea. However, our server was fantastic, she brought over a light sweetened mixture of liquid honey to use. I must say that without all the sugar, the fragrance and natural taste of the tea could be appreciated.
I tried the Grapefruit & Hamachi to start with and it was delicious and light; not overpowering and beautifully presented.
We all ordered different dishes for the most part. Two of us, including me, had Okonomiyaki. Absolutely delicious! Each bite was yummy heaven and a delicate blend of tastes. My daughter agreed, once she got over the fact that the shavings of smoked fish were not moving because they were alive but from the heat of the pancakes. :-)
Two others had the Panko-Fried Soft Shell Crab Sandwich, which I was told was alright but not great. I tasted a piece for myself and it was not on the same level of deliciousness as the rest of the dishes.
Another dish that two of us in the group ordered was Dave's Chicken Katsu Curry. I didn't taste it but I was told it was absolutely delicious and they wished there was more. I can attest to both of them cleaning their plates, which is always a great sign of yumminess.
My grand-daughter who is four, had the Pork Belly Buns, which was suggested by the server since they do not have a menu with kid-friendly items. However, she only had one bite before we were asking if she would share a nibble with us. We figured it must be good because her face went from skeptical to smiling and gave it a thumbs up. We had to order her one "to go" because we ended up eating all of her food. The Pork Belly Buns looks like a raw bun folded over to resemble a taco. However, do not underestimate the flavorful taste bud experience by not ordering it because it looks funny.
Dessert for the birthday girl was a tart made with a shortbread crust with homemade whipped cream and a sweet berry sauce. I do not remember the name but the flavor was mild and with the cream and sauce, made it a nice treat.
This is definitely a place that is worth trying out if you want to taste something other than the Americanized version of sushi, etc. I will definitely be back and will not wait for a family celebration to be the reason to visit again. As a matter of fact, I am about to make a reservation for one for next week.
