  • The CBGBs of Toronto, basically. Small, intimate and outlandishly decorated with...uh...random discarded crap (fences, xmas lights, bicycles, car parts, creepy chained-up dancing baby figurines, old flickering TVs), this place is an authentic rock dive - unpretentious and always a good time. All comers are welcomed, although if you show up looking like or expecting a club-district vibe, you will be ignored and/or shunned, which is how it should be. The place is frequently packed to the gills for sets by great local (and sometimes international) punk, metal and hardcore bands and it's staffed by bartenders who look the part, are approachable and keep the drinks flowing. Speaking of drinks, the Stock Ale is cheap and plentiful - so don't waste money on buying imported beer, ok? I mean, who drinks imported beer anyway? Bottom line: if you hate the club district, do not consider yourself a vampire, do not wear Affliction t-shirts, enjoy immersing yourself in the true spirit of rock n roll and want to have a loud, stripper-pole-enhanced drinky-poo while hanging with genuinely rad 20- and early 30-something compatriots, this is your scene. Bonus recommendo: if you're hungry after a night at the Bovine, Sneaky Dee's is this place's ideological sibling - and it's not THAT far away. Definitely worth the trip up the road.
