  • I live within a dozen miles of Lower Gear and have been wanting to check them out for backpacking equipment. I would love to try before I buy, I suppose. The staff was very friendly, helpful and very knowledgable which was comforting. I only rented sleeping bags and pads, but looked a little at their several packs hanging on the wall. The equipment was clean and in good shape, and their warehouse seemed pretty well stocked to me. I have no issues with the place, and I'll give them another try on different things. They aren't in your face about sales, and I had to track someone down at some point to get some additional info. I think these guys are usually out and about, not really salesmen...which is just fine for my needs.
