FUZZY MATH..
Recently went to the dealer and purchased some new splash guards for our van... I like the factory products because they fit properly, are high quality and made in America plus I get a 25% discount from my fathers retirement family plan... while there I inquired about some winter slush mats for the same van. Would have to order them and after our discount I was told the price would be about $79.00
2 weeks later I return trip to the dealer parts window. Order slush mats and I am told by the seasoned parts clerk that they will be there Monday and with discount they will be about $79.00. Perfect.
Monday around lunchtime... same seasoned parts clerk calls cell and leaves msg stating the mats are in and they are open till 7:30 pm.
After I close shop I drive up the dealer and visit the parts window. Not so seasoned evening parts clerk greets me at the window... inform him I was there to pick up the mats I ordered. Give him the name and the gold card credentials for the discount... he retrieves mats and enters discount information into the computer. Hands me an invoice to take to the cashier for $104.00 plus... "Umm.. excuse me. There seems to be a mistake on here. I was told these would be about $79.00"
He responds that the mats are $130.00 and with our 25% discount they come to $104.00+... I am no math wizard but 25% from 130.00 is $97.50 NOT $104.00... I tell him that I was told three times they would be about $79.00... He responds that 130.00 is the only price available and $104.00 is it with discount.. I then ask if $130.00 is the only price available why are the selling them online for $109.95?
Says he has no knowledge of that....
There is nobody else in line and I am the only customer he needs to deal with... he pushes the invoice to me and tells me to take it to the cashier and walks away. I approach cashier who is alone and not waiting on any customers. Give her the invoice and question the price as I did with the unseasoned parts clerk and SHOW her the price they are offering online.. Her response was to take it up with parts dept.... No willingness on her part or the parts clerk to even investigate... wouldnt even look at me in the eye... Funny how the DAY clerk always had a different price for the same part number than the evening clerk... wth???
So in a nutshell... if you want to use your employee discount at Falls Motor City it only applies to an inflated list price and not the actual sale price... Your employee or retiree discount is applied at a higher list price at this dealership... so you are NOT getting the 25% off that you worked for. I left those mats and the invoice on the counter. Went home and ordered the same mats from an out of state dealer for $82.00 to the door... they honored the discount off their sale price.
Fuzzy Math indeed.. Dad would be glad to know that after 30 yrs of service his 25% discount comes to about 5 bucks on an item over 100 bucks..
check the link- But $130.00 is the only price available... Right?
