| - Well. You would hope that the birth of your child would be an amazing experience. Well, It may have been if we hadn't gone to Banner Thunderbird. It didn't start out bad at all. My wifes original OBGYN wasn't on call the day she went into labor so we ended up with the doctor that was working that day, Dr. Zhang. She was full of helpful information as my son was breach. She went through all the pros and cons to help us make the best decision possible for the best and safest delivery of my baby boy. The post-op area was just ok. She had a general anesthesia due to the fact that she was not able to take an epidural. "Waking up" was very hard for her and the nurses tried to due their best at making it easy as they could. It wasn't until my wife was put into recovery where it all went horribly wrong. The first thing we noticed was that her bedside sink was not draining properly. It quickly got to a point where it didn't drain at all. It took a day for the "maintenance" guy to look at it and he said that they couldn't do anything to it because it was a health issue to start removing the sink while she was in there. They never offered to move her to another room even though there were rooms available. By the 4th and last day it started to smell because the water was pooled up.. There was also no housekeeping. The same "nurses who were checking her vitals and giving her medication were the same ones emptying the trash, but not until it started to overflow. When I asked they said "Housekeeping is understaffed". Also.. There was a constant flow of "nurses" that were ditzy, sarcastic, and flippant the entire time. A few were good, but most shouldn't be working there at all. My wife obviously had trouble walking the first couple days and I asked for a walker to help her keep her balance as she tried to recover. The "nurse" replied. "No, we don't do that. Does she use a walker any other day?" I replied "Well no, but she doesn't get a 6" incision in her abdomen every day either" The nurse replied "She has to be able to walk on her own". She never gave her anything even though we saw recovering moms pushing empty wheelchairs in the halls. A few times I went out to the desk to the "nurses" that were there that was just outside her room door to ask for items(extra pillow, blanket, ice etc.) The one looked up at me with an annoyed look and said "You know, there is a button you can push to get that stuff". I replied "Yeah, I know. Can YOU get me a pillow?" She was extremely put out by the request. They also were pumping my wife full of Percocet every few hours even though she said she had no pain. "What's your pain level?" they said. My wife replied numerous times "0 at the moment." They then said "Here, take these.". The Percs gave my wife horrible side effects, nausea, lack of appetite, even slight hallucinations at times. I stepped in and said "Why are you trying to give her these when she tells you there is no pain?" There awesome reply was "This is what we give all out C-section patients". Sooo, everyone is the same huh? Their scripted medical mumbo-jumbo that they spew to everyone just makes me laugh. We could not get out of there fast enough. It was an absolute disaster. In 4 days of recovery they didn't even change my wifes bed sheets...not once, but fixing a clogged sink in her room was a health issue. The best thing that came out of it was a beautiful and healthy baby boy thanks to my wife taking such good care of herself her entire pregnancy.
Ending note... If you are having a baby..CONGRATULATIONS. But.. DO NOT GO HERE TO HAVE IT.. Go to HonorHealth- they are way friendlier, they have a HUGE play area for your other kids, video game systems in your rooms, way cleaner(Banner Thunderbird had nothing like that), go to a birthing center, hire a doula/midwife and have it at home, hell, have it in your backyard pool or bathtub.. ANYTHING would be better than Banner Thunderbird Hospital. You so-called "nurses" should really be ashamed. Now I understand why there are so many 1-stars.
