  • Valentine's Day dinner 2K15. I'll remember this one because there's a story to tell. Got a reservation for 2 at Smith & Wollensky. I drive by the restaurant every so often and always say I've got to try that place. So we did. Besides trying to make a right into the driveway off of Las Vegas Blvd (tons and tons of walkers crossing the driveway), once you make it over, they've got a nice valet waiting for you. You literally get out of your car and you walk right into the restaurant. We walk in and the first thing that grabs my attention is a wedding party enjoying their reception dinner. I thought, that's cool. So we check in and the host escorts us to a cozy table adjacent to the wedding party. After sitting down for a couple minutes, one of the guests from the wedding party is heard having a good time, ranting/raving about stuff...we figure he's feelin' good, no worries. But as the minutes go by, we hear him raising his voice, ranting across the table to the bride or groom, using profanities. I take a little peak (as my back was facing him), and this dude is totally faded and wearing a Yankee ball cap and jeans. I look around and everyone else is either suited n booted or in business casual, including myself. So after the waiter greeted us and went over the menu, we (and others around us in this part of the dining room) were subjected to not only this inebriated ghetto knucklehead, but the bride AND groom got in on the action about how slow service was and that they were going to leave and go to IN N OUT. I inconspicuously made my way over to the host and told her what was going on and requested to move. (Honestly i was thinking chances were zero of moving b/c it was Valentine's Day and the place was booked). But Gina, the host, immediately apologized on the restaurant's behalf and found us a table upstairs with no hesitation. Here's the kicker: as we got up to move and had to walk right past the wedding party, many people from the party started taunting us. It was weird b/c all of a sudden me and my wife were the center of attention while we were leaving. We didn't make eye contact nor engage with those crazy people. We got upstairs and sat in a beautiful table overlooking the Strip. The night turned from "Oh my God" to what we had expected...a nice quiet Valentines Dinner. This incident and the way in which the staff handled it prompted me to give them 5-stars. They were extremely polite, professional, and apologetic. I felt for them in dealing with that nasty wedding party, especially in an establishment like this, but oh well...it happens from time to time. To finish my review and not to diminish the other parts of this dining experience, I'll keep it short and sweet: Service: impeccable...some of the best customer service I've ever had Food: as expected...excellent filet mignon and wild mushrooms Ambiance: perfect (upstairs, of course) Price: once again, as expected. This is fine dining with fine dining prices. Oh, and I think our waiter didn't charge us for the $20 martini maybe b/c of the initial incident. Thank you Smith & Wollensky. It was a memorable night.
