It was always a mystery to me why Yorkdale is so popular. Everything about it is second class. The store the selection is the similar as in all the other malls (but with focus on brand names and less originality). The food court is the same as everywhere else. The movie theater is the same as everywhere else...
There's the famous Edmonton Mall with an indoor amusement park. There is Metro town in Vancouver, which is 4 stores high. Upper Canada Mall is on the block where almost every single chain has a location (from dollar store to Costco). Even Eaton's Centre has a fountain.
And then there is Yorkdale with its everlasting parking problem and absolutely zero uniqueness and originality.
I have to give them credit that in the last few years they at least cleaned it up a little so it's not as embarrassing to take out of town visitor's there, but I am still appalled at they shutting down every single business that did not sell over priced ugly female shirts and shoes.
Of course, it is still fine as just a mall, but I would not recommended because of their parking incompetence. If I am ever forced to go there, then I often park on a side street and walk there to avoid the overcrowded lot where every one is just idling in their cars waiting in line, since it seems they have not yet discovered underground mutli- level parking system.
