| - I would give this place no stars at all if it were possible. As a college student, I spend a lot of time (and money) in coffee shops, and I can honestly say that I will never be going back to this particular coffee shop ever again. I will also be informing everyone that I know about how TERRIBLE their service is, and how extremely RUDE their store owner is.
My first experience with MadHouse Coffee was alright. I ordered a spiced chai tea latte (that happened to be nothing special) and stayed for about 15 minutes to study. Their decor is odd, for lack of a better word. You also have to be careful about using their bathroom since the door does not lock properly.
My second experience occurred the very next day, and it was by far the WORST customer experience I've ever had in my entire 22 years of life!
My best friend and I were in need of a place to study near my school and her home. Seeing as I had another class that night, and wanting a change of scenery, I suggested MadHouse Coffee...BIG MISTAKE, we should have just gone to a Starbucks instead. We were planning on studying for 3 hours there, but promptly left after their store owner was extremely rude to us. We had grabbed a couple of subs before going to this coffee shop and had brought them in with the intention of eating them and ordering coffee and possibly a pastry after wards. This is usually our routine when we go to Starbucks as well. So, when we get there, they have the door propped open, and the owner is sitting outside with whom I assume is a friend, smoking a cigar, resulting in the inside seating area smelling strongly of smoke. So we politely asked if we could close the door, and the guy behind the counter said that "it's your choice." So, instead of subjecting ourselves to second hand smoke, and 45 degree temperature, we close the door. Not long after we settle in, the store manager comes inside and informs us that they do not allow outside food in their shop. So, I respond that we will be buying drinks from them, and store that info in my memory bank for next time. I understand that some places are hurting for business, and therefore make such rules, and I completely understand. It's not like our economy is doing great lately. So, I finish my sub, thinking that's the end of that, but he comes back inside to re-inform my best friend of their no outside food policy (she was still finishing her food up). So she responds with, "Do you want me to throw it away?" And he rudely replies that it's her choice, and pretty much states that if we aren't going to purchase anything then we must leave. This being after we have already informed him that we will be making a purchase and are here to study. So, after he spends time staring her down and flat out humiliating her in front of other customers, she shoves the rest of her food in her backpack, and he walks away, but that's not the end of it. He walks away to gossip with his employees, point at us angrily, and this of course results in some very rude stares. We didn't stay much longer after that, but in the short time period that we were there, there were at least 4 people who do not work there, hanging out behind the counter with there friends, and I noticed hookah, cigarette, and cigar products. Mind you, many of his employees look much to young to be selling any such products. So, if you have small children, STAY AWAY. I am a part-time nanny and regular babysitter. The environment is terrible for kids. Unless you're a parent who is willing to explain the concept of smoking and hookah at a young age, and alright with subjecting them to an extremely rude owner's second hand cigar smoke.
In the end, we ended up at the Starbucks on Fort Apache and Sahara. The employees and manager there are extremely kind. This entire experience has taught me that I should just stick with Starbucks.
Seeing as the owner responded, I'd just like to point out that his reply is obviously RUDE and proves my point. Apparently, he does not want people who buy from Starbucks, McDonalds (which I do not, by the way), and Walmart to stop at his location. I wish he'd advertise that on his door, because I'm sure that he'd lose 80% of his business. We DID NOT bring outside drinks, just a sub, and we had specifically told him that we were planning on buying not only drinks, but most likely would be purchasing pastries as well. I would also like to point out the fact that he states that MadHouse is always busy. Both times that I have been there, there have been no more than 4 people at this location, excluding the people hanging out behind the counter. Now, I am not saying that it is never busy. I'm sure it gets busy especially since it is one of the few 24 hour coffee shops in Vegas, and any 24 hour study location is sure to get busy once the other shops are closed. Just saying.
