| - Stopped in here, finally, after living nearby for 2.5 years. I was about 5 days post-partum, and was still craving things, this time, something sweet. I was immediately greeted upon entering the unassuming shop that boasts being supported by the Pittsburgh Penguins. I took in the tons of options in the display cases, including the revolving cake case filled also with cupcakes. In the end, I ordered 6 shortbread cookies stuffed with buttercream (their special, and the official cookie of the Penguins). $11 for 6 cookies--kinda pricey. The cookie is buttery, light, and delicate--too delicate to hold the smooth, sugary sweet buttercream. Which, the buttercream is DIVINE. It almost seems to be unbalanced as a cookie. I also ordered 2 Valentine's iced sugar cookies, which were good. Dense sugar cookie that was balanced by beautifully decorated holiday icing. I also had 3 cupcakes: strawberry vanilla, vanilla bean, and salted caramel. They are not cheap at $3.50 each, topped high with flavored buttercream. The cake was moist and good, but starting to taste like it had been in that cabinet for a bit too long (the cake was developing almost a "stale" taste). The icing was smooth and delicate. I also ordered a cream puff, which was standard and nothing spectacular. So, a half-dozen of those cookies, cream puff, 2 iced cookies and 3 cupcakes came to nearly $30. This place is good, but is costly, so be forewarned. I thought their sugar cookies were beautifully designed, and will return to try their other produces, especially since I live so close!
