I spoke to a gal on the phone about opening an account and was VERY impressed, but I just wasn't ready to do it that day.
Today, about a month and three more issues later with my current credit union, and I was finally ready. I went in with an hour and twenty minutes left before close. The lobby was VERY unique as it is staged like an old west town and it caught me off guard. There were two clerks and one other customer inside. One clerk politely asked what he could help me with today and I told him I wanted to open an account. Without missing a beat he told me he didn't have time to help me with that because it was too close to closing. He offered to schedule me for a time to return next week to do it instead. I told him that I work until 4pm but he must not have understood, as he was trying to schedule me for times during the day. (I wasn't planning to take time off work to open an account, frustrating.) I explained again I wouldn't be able to come in until 4pm on a week day and he told me the latest he could schedule me to open an account is 3pm. I was very surprised that it'd take 2 hours to open an account. I told him that wouldn't work for me and that was it, I walked out.
I was disappointed and very surprised by the lack of customer service I was shown. There was no real effort to make me feel like they wanted me as a customer. I left kind of in shock by the whole experience. I guess I'm glad I found out ahead of time the way 'customers' are treated there.
