  • I can't keep a secret on how good my experience was at Dat Salon and with Israel... I can try because I'm going back and hoping to have his schedule open! But seeing how there is an overwhelming 5 stars for this place, I can safely say ... yes, it is deserving. Dat Salon sits in the cool and hip neighbourhood of Ossington near Queen St. The nice thing about Dat and specifically Israel, it doesnt matter if you're hip or not... you're going to get really great service even if you're looking for a cut thats just pretty and conservative. The salon itself is artistic and yet minimal at the same time. Interesting splashes of colour hangs on the walls while the overall look and feel is clean and airy. All the stations are clean and pristine. No clutter at all. There's also a good 3 to 4 feet between each station. You never feel like you're going to a place where they just have one too many stations. There are many different levels of stylists you can choose from. They start from $50 and goes upwards to $100 for the master level 5 stylists. If you look at the instagram, a lower level doesnt mean a worse hair cut at all... lots of time you'll see great looks from all levels and all the stylists. I choose Israel and he was a level 4 so it was starting at $80. The haircut does include a wash and style. The wash was a nice bonus since they didnt rush it and they included a mini scalp massage... have to admit, it was putting me into a nice nap mood. My time with Israel was great from the moment we met. He was on time and ready to go. He spent close to 10 minutes just talking to me. He wanted to understand the style I wanted, how much effort am I willing to do to for the style, what a normal day is like for me (office!), and what my hair behaves like (it never does... I have to fight down the waves). I think him just taking his time listening, framing up a look in his mind, and then talking it out with me before washing ... it put me at ease immediately and I was looking forward to the next hour. To say that Israel is great is an understatement... he's really warm and sincere. There's no pretentious attitude or comments. He's just very open and easy to talk to ... I know some people just want a cut and out. I happen to like developing a friendship with my stylist so this worked out perfectly for me. As for the haircut... I got compliments! My hair feels great and refreshed. He cut exactly the right amount to keep the length I wanted and it was beautifully styled. My pic isn't perfect cause I walked around outside in the wind before taking a snap.. so messed it up a bit... Ooops. I've washed it, styled it myself, and it looks great. Overall, I know finding a new stylist can be scary as you hear (or see) the horror stories of a bad cut. Great thing about Dat's Salon... you're in good.... no wait... great hands and you'll be looking great as well.
