| - I have been meaning to write a review since my first class. In June I was told I was hyper mobile and the vertebrae in my neck were completely rotated. I saw PTs and Chiropractors (which I had never done before), and all of them told me I needed to stop lifting heavy weights, doing high impact sports, and to try yoga. I was skeptical. I perceived yoga as a meditation practice; however, it took months for me to regain feeling in my hands and when I finally did I was itching to move even if it meant slow, stretched movements. My chiropractor recommended iShine Yoga. Most yoga studios are hard for me to attend as my husband works odd hours/weekends, but they offer child care. So I opted to sign up for a 10am Flow class on Saturday.
My first class was led by the now Studio Manager Micah. She started the class stating it was her first time teaching at iShine and I felt a kindred connection (as it was my first yoga class). She mentioned that the students, teachers at iShine made her feel so welcomed and it was such a strong, supportive community that she had to be a part of it. I started class and I was surprised at how involved it was. People were doing handstands and strong core exercises. Both of which I couldn't do. After class I was exhausted (it was a light heat, but the moving around and warmth - oh it was good)! I had no idea I could like yoga! I decided to enroll in the new student special for $39 to see if it would be something I could regularly.
In the next month, I tried Power yoga (which will def build strength), more Flow classes, and a few Yoga Nidra classes (which is meditation - which I ALSO super enjoy and puts me in the best mood). I have had multiple teachers all of whom I love (the owners Anita and Genevieve especially, but Nora, Micah, Nicole, and Sonya too). Everyone in the community is so wonderful though. It's a welcoming place that I have come to call another home. Needless to say, I signed up for another month, plan on signing up for more once this month is done, and enrolled myself in a yoga retreat. I mean who am I?
Over the last month, my body hasn't super changed but my mood has - I am kinder to myself, I have been over a month free from Diet Coke (and let me tell you - at one point I drank six 20oz bottles a day - ADDICTED), I want to help myself not only look a certain way, but feel a certain way, and I love going to yoga. Working out was always something I forced myself to do, but yoga is a gift I have given to myself.
I am trying to share this space with everyone! Come meet these people, step outside the norm, and try yoga - this is a wonderful, welcoming (oh and clean/neat studio too with lots of stuff I have to keep myself from buying), and fun place to check out.
