  • I wanted to surprise the partner in crime with an activity outside of our Las Vegas trip that would leave him wowed. This was it! It took me a couple of months going back and forth researching all of the different companies with their packages and pricing. it was really between this company and Maverick. Since I was already spending $$$$ on the rest of the trip, I wanted to take it a little easier to be able to get the most bang for my buck all around. Papillon has many packages that they offer, but I chose the package #6. #6 basically includes the following: transfer to/from hotel by shuttle bus to the Boulder City airport, flight that views Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam, Hualapai areas and into the west tip of the Grand Canyon, with a 30 min stop inside the Canyon to take pictures and enjoy a small picnic basket with some bubbly, then back through the scenic canyons to the Boulder airport. For an extra $40 each (we found a $10 off per person coupon) we could both ride shotgun with the pilot. The trip itself was gorgeous and definitely wowed the PIC! He kept mentioning over and over agin that it was the coolest thing he ever did see. The only cons: they do weigh you ahead of time, and pick where you are seated in the helicopter, based on weight. We got lucky and both sat in the front (paid $80 extra) with the pilot and we pretty much had an unobstructed view. All passengers wore Bose headphones to be able to speak with one another and listen to what our pilot had to say about the areas we were passing. We could, however, hear the passengers in the back as well and their conversation. You must call to reconfirm your reservation 24 hours in advance to secure your spot (which is normally fine, but we were leaving the airport and heading to our hotel during some hours, and this was surprise that i didn't want to be stuck on the phone). We had a bit of an older heli, and our seats were a little bit older and belts were twisted. Our shuttle bus driver to the Boulder airport was a bit of a crazy guy on the road when we hit traffic on the way, and that was an adventure on its own. Lastly, the picnic lunch was kind of lame. Dry turkey sandwich that tasted like it came out of a vending machine, and very cheap bubbly that gave me a slight headache (I only had one plastic flute full). I definitely recommend any trip that includes stopping inside of the Canyon instead of just flying around it.
