| - We were here in Las Vegas to visit family for the holidays. Our anniversary is January 1, and since there are fewer places to go where we are living now, we decided to celebrate here. The Forum Shops at Caesar's is also one of the first places we went when we first met so it was extra special to go back.
We haven't been to the Forum Shops in ages so we walked around and looked at all the shops. Things have changed a lot since we were here last. I was sad to see that FAO Schwartz closed but so many new shops have opened. It is a fun place to window shop. There are high end shops like Cartier, Tiffany and every clothing designer, it seemed, but they were almost all empty the night before Christmas Eve. Guess Santa did his shopping early. Though there was a bit of a crowd at a store that had Mike Tyson signing autographs. It was close to our reservation or I would have checked it out.
We made it back in time for our reservation although there weren't very many dining and some came in without reservations with no problems. They've remodeled and opened up the place to one big room. It used to be more closed in which also gave it an old time vibe (in a good way). The ambiance is still good, though not really as good as other Palms restaurants.
We had a nice comfy booth with a nice view of the passers by without being out on the patio to eat. We ordered drinks-I had a Prosecco and my husband had a Cabernet-and they were both very good. Our server, Tae, as well as the other staff, were very helpful and attentive.
They brought out a bread basket which had a good variety of breads-pretzel bread, Asiago baguette, pumpernickel and walnut (sweet, dense bread) and a white chocolate and toasted nut (which wasn't very sweet but had an amazing flavor). My husband loved the chewy pretzel bread and I loved loved the white chocolate-although all were wonderful.
They had a special appetizer with 3 of the chef's favorites. A crab cake, a bacon-wrapped scallop and a shrimp in a creamy mustard sauce. Our favorite was the crab cake which was mostly crab with just enough binder to hold it together. They were all delicious although I'm not a big fan of bacon-wrapped anything (I know) because it just overshadows the other but my husband liked it very much.
We both ordered the Maine lobster. They have 2,3 and even 4 pound lobsters. And for a side, we ordered the small (but still huge) half & half which is half house made potato chips and half shoestring onions. The lobster are very fresh with had amazing flavor and the half & half is delicious.
With the bread and appetizers, we were full and needed boxes to take home leftovers. Then they brought a big slice of New York Cheesecake with a sour cherry sauce and whipped cream for our anniversary. We couldn't not eat that so we ordered coffee and enjoyed. The cheesecake was very good. A perfectly dry and dense cheesecake which is my favorite kind. Such a nice touch.
The Palm is a perfect place to celebrate any special occasion as well as a great place just to go for spectacular food.
