  • Let me just say that The Spa at the Intercontinental has changed management or ownership etc...This used to be my favourite and absolute go-to spa for many years for facials, massages, waxing, you name it. I even went to this spa to get my make-up done for OAC prom (way back when we used to have grade 13 in Ontario)!! I believe the lady who operated it was Victoria and she ran the spa with SERVICE in mind. The spa staff (as I remember) were all Japanese and they just made the experience that much better as well. No matter which person I got, the facials were unbelievable and I would go here on a monthly basis (and that went for massages and pedicures and waxes and everything else too!) Then I remember calling to make a reservation, and out of nowhere, a phone message indicated that the spa would be closed...WHAT THE HECK?!?! There was no mention of why, when, what, how etc...other than to stay tuned for a re-opening. I furiously tried to track down this Victoria to see if she went to manage another spa so that I could follow her. In her spa I trusted. No luck so fast-forward to the opening of the new spa. Intro. I went to the newly re-opened spa (not new now, but last I went) for a pedicure and massage. I wanted to try the place out. No renovations were made except for some slight removals of faux plants. The pedicure was conducted in a room that used to be a small lounge for relaxation. I started to interview the pedicurist, trying to find out what happened. Rumors-ville had heard many a thing, but needless to say, the spa is just not the same. I had an okay experience. I decided to give this spa another chance by taking out my bf for a couple's package that included massage and lunch. Both my bf and I complained (to each other) that our masseuses were both dead tired. I had one with extremely cold hands and a look that clearly said, "Thank goodness you are small so I don't have to exert much effort," and no effort was exerted. My bf's masseuse kept on asking if everything was all right, which in a sense good customer service is, but annoying if you just want to sleep. The lunch consisted of cold cuts and randomly sliced cheese. No thanks. Ambiance. The hotels pool and whirlpool is located in the spa so the main area can look like Canada's Wonderland Water parks at times with kids jumping in the pool with their floatable toys. A door separates the pool area from the spa rooms. What I used to love about this spa was the wide, open solarium where pedicures and manicures are conducted. It is still there, but... All in all, I have not returned to this spa. It's convenient for those staying at the hotel, but I find, the spa has become just another ordinary spa with no character. It could be due to the fact I no longer know anyone anymore. It seems that even the spa staff during Victoria's reign was "removed." It's like that time of the spa has been completely erased. Not for me though. The before-spa was a haven for me, a place that I spent most of my high-school years at. Because the bar had been set so high, your time and money could be spent elsewhere in my opinion.
