| - My husband and I are lovers of aquariums and zoos. We are originally from Pittsburgh that has that combined into one admission. (hint-we even had our wedding reception at the aquarium at the Pgh zoo). Yes, the price is high for the size of the building, but.... it is pretty cool that they are using a beautiful historic building to have the aquarium in. I like it when people repurpose buildings that aren't in use. We actually got a yearly admission, because for 2 people you only have to go twice to get your money back. And the thing about zoos and aquariums, you will never see the same thing twice.
So... back to the review.....
Aquarium is in the basement of a lighthouse building so parking is somewhat high. The aquarium is smaller, but has some interesting animals. Also, it is bigger or equivalent to the SeaLife brand which is the same cost for admission. For one, you can actually see the octopus. Many places the octopus looks for ways to hide. The shark tunnel is pretty cool. There is also more turtles than I have ever seen in an aquarium. There is some tanks that could have been cleaned, but that might have been a fluke. The tank for the jellyfish was kind of cool as it was a ceiling tank. There was adult activities as well as kids (because adults like to have fun too). There was also a stingray tank where you can pet a stingray as well as tank with various crabs etc to touch.
I am excited to try events as they have those for members. I think that it may be cost effective for many families to just pay for the membership. It is a nice hour or two thing to kill on a rainy, cold day (and we all know how much that happens). Also, keep in mind, this isn't the national aquarium and keeping exotic fish is very expensive.
