A solid 4 star experience for me. You get what you pay for in life and Regency Cinemas is not different. Let's be honest-the main draw here is the dirt cheap price. I mean, $2 for a movie? Can't beat it. Just know that you're getting an older theater without all the bells and whistles that you're accustomed to at the larger cinemas. The place is small, with maybe 5 or 6 fairly small theaters. The seats have been renovated since the last time I was there and while initially I thought they were comfortable, sitting in them for a 2 hour movie left me annoyed and uncomfortable as I was squirming to find a comfy spot almost the entire time. The other major drawback for me was the fact that none of the theaters have stadium seating. Granted, the rows are slightly (with a huge emphasis on slightly) inclined but if someone tall sits in front of you, you've got an obstructed view of the screen for sure. The movies play well here and the sound is decent (bonus points for not being able to hear the sound in the theater next to you-it seems like the larger chain theaters always have that problem).
The bargain prices stop at the door cause the snack counter is just as expensive as every other theater and I'll be honest-the popcorn was subpar at best. The butter was tasteless and the popcorn needed lots of salt. I'll have to remember that next time and skip the popcorn altogether. All I need in life is Diet Coke anyway.
Bottom line here is that I'm way more inclined to wait a few weeks after a movies release and come here to see it rather than paying a mint at a larger theater. I'm not coming for the amenities but that's fine - I just want to see a movie and Regency Theaters makes that happen.
FYI: They take debit/credit card at the ticket counter but the transaction has to be at least $5. If you've just got 2 people or less in your party, you gotta pay cash.
