  • Around 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, my husband and I decided to visit the Target Store in East Liberty (Pittsburgh, 15206). As we entered the store, we were nearly run over twice by a young man wearing ear phones who was in control of the motorized cart collection vehicle. My husband and I were well in front of him when he started towards the door - without any concern for our safety, this young man forced us to move or be hit. My husband managed to stay ahead of him, while I decided to remain behind and try to video the activity with my cell phone. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, another customer yelled at the young man for nearly running over him and I was unable to capture video. We decided that this was a one-off incident related to how hot it was outside and the total ignorance of youth. We soon learned that it is the baseline attitude of the entire staff at the store. We returned from vacation the day before and we were in search of a freezer that we saw on sale in the Target ad. The store is rather large, so after looking and selecting several items (at this point only $50 worth although we were debating purchase of a $400 TV), I asked a staff member who was stocking school supplies. She was obviously miffed that I interrupted her. Without looking at me or stopping her work, she indicated where the freezer might be - around 24-5B. I had no idea what that meant, but before I could ask, she turned and walked away from me to get more supplies out of the box. It was difficult to accept someone being that rude about a simple question, but I tried. We figured out how to read the aisle numbers, weaving our way thru the store in a hit or miss fashion and found the freezer. It was not marked on sale so we looked for someone to help us. My husband found another person, also stocking shelves near the front of the store. He asked my husband to wait until he was finished with a conversation on internal communication system, which he did. My husband asked about the freezer - which this person unkindly told us was not on sale unless it was marked. That is when we discovered it was not on sale, because the ad had expired. That was our one fault in this whole experience. But, this individual's impatient attitude toward our questions was totally uncalled for. We asked if there was anyway that Target would honor the sale price at this time - we were two days into the next sale period. Without stopping for one moment to address us personally, without a hint of care for the customer, this individual kept chatting on his internal communication equipment while forcefully placing product on the shelf and told us that there was nothing that could be done. We interacted with three Target employees in a period of 20 minutes of shopping, and were treated poorly by all of them. We made the decision not to buy the TV, left the cart of other choices in the aisle, and left the store. We will do what we can to influence family and friends by sharing this experience. If Target's low price guarantee includes ignorant, rude employees, I can shop at Walmart or Kmart with a Target ad and get what I want without the added expectation of decent customer service.
