  • We rented a car back in august 2014, I have always used Thrifty but after my last few rental experience's I will never rent from them again. First of all before our Aug, 2014 incident we had rented a car and after a few days we started smelling a rank smell, turned out to be a dirty diaper that was left in the console, after disposal the smell went away, we since then had a another rental, I dropped my pen between the seats and got out to retrieve it, I then found a used condom under the seat, eww. I used the pen and fished it out and of course threw them both away, gross.!!! We are now up to the August 13, 2014 rental and was taking a family trip and rented a Thrifty mid size SUV for a month, we ended up with the Chevy Captiva, we did not like the car at all. My daughter and son-in-law also had rented the same car for this trip and had the same feelings. Upon arrival to our first destination, Las Vegas, Nevada the car was running ruff and with the 114 degree weather the rock chip that was already in the windshield prior to the rental had started to spread. Yikes! I called them up to let them know about the problem and was told to take the car to the nearest thrifty and exchange the car. Ok, we could not do that on that day due to prior reservations to a few shows and did the exchange the next day before heading of to our next adventure. When we got to the McCarran Airport Thrifty, we had to fill out a report for the windshield and then the manager said go to the back of the lot and pick a car, Ok there was 4 cars to chose from, one was not a choice as it was a vehicle we had rented before and was not a comfortable gas saving choice, the other was to small and would not hold all the stuff we left home with, ie, cooler, cots, blankets, clothing the things we needed for a long trip with 3 people and all the things we needed to get back home, this now left us with the 2 Ford Escapes, there was a beautiful green colored one and a black one, so we were going to take the green but then found the yellow writing on the back window, damaged underneath need repairs send to shop.. OK darn, now that left the black Escape and this car had a big dent in the rear driver side bumper section and some front scrapes and a small crack in its windshield, there was something written in yellow that had been half assed removed on the back widow, we could not decipher what it said but this was our last choice. After checking in with the guy at the booth and told him that the car was damaged and we were not going to be responsible for the damages that were on the car when we returned home to Portland to return the rental, he made a note on our paper work and my husband took a few picture's, we also woke up to a flat on the same side as the dented bumper after our first night in Nephi, Utah then had to deal with that, FUN! When we arrived back home and returned the car, the guy come over to do the inspection we immediately said the damage on the car was there when we did the exchange and showed him the note on the receipt the guy in Vegas wrote. He said no problem and gave us our ending receipt and we were on our way home. Seven months later I was cleaning my desk and found the papers for the rental and discarded them, the trip was done and gone and all was good. so last week I get a letter in the mail claiming the inspection of the rental revealed that the car had been damaged,( No shit!) and we needed to contact our insurance to file a claim, I called them immediately told them that we were not responsible for the damages to the car that had been damaged prior to the rental exchange and that it would be the responsibilities of the renter that rented the car before us as for what ever has happened to this car we would not know this information as its their car not ours, they should have record of this at the Las Vegas Thrifty as they were the ones that gave us the car in this condition, as I also exclaimed that we should have gotten a discount for having to take the rented wreck but got none, told them about the diaper and used condom and will never rent from them again, in fact we rented a car in March while having some engine work on our main SUV and rented from Enterprise, I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THRIFTY AGAIN! And hope you don't fall victim of their dirty scams and cars.Thumbs Down for Thrifty!
