  • Spotted Donkey - Not the Best Restaurant Experience The resort staff at Boulders Resort and Spa hyped this place up, which made us excited to have made reservations here prior to checking in at the resort. We arrive and asked for a table on the patio, which would not be available for 20 min, which was fine. We decided to sit at the bar until the table was ready. The bar staff was on point. They were friendly and attentive. The tequila menu had shots that ranged from $11 and up. Our table was ready and we headed to the patio and were seated with no menus. At least 20 min went by and the table next to us had to tell their waitress that we have not yet been seen. The waitress then gives us menus and flags down a waiter who apparently was tending to customers inside. He was clearly not happy about having to tend to our table. He was visibly overwhelmed and annoyed. Another 20 min go by and still our waiter has not come to take our order. We flag down a waitress by the name of Kelly, she was awesome! She was super apologetic & took our order. She even comp'd our appetizer and upon speaking w/ her manager, gave us a discount on our overall dinner for the super slow service and inconvenience. 2 tables next to us were also having issues w/ their dinner service. One customer was upset about the fajitas she received and sent them back and was not interested in staying there after that. The other table was having issues w/ their bill, which made us feel like the staff at Spotted Donkey was having a bad/rough night. My wife really enjoyed her Poblano Chile Relleno. I on the other hand thought my Fajitas de la Cantina (shrimp) were ok. Not the best, but definitely not the worst I have had. On the shuttle ride back to the room, our driver asked how the experience was at Spotted Donkey and we told him what happened. He mentioned that he had 3 other people mention they had a bad experience there that same night. We met up with couple at the pool the next day and they mentioned they had a good experience at the Spotted Donkey when they sat at the bar. At that point we regretted asking for that patio seat and not having just stayed at the bar. We were trying to have an intimate/romantic setting, but that backfired on us unfortunately. The ambiance / decor / view were nice. The bar is awesome. However, the customer service needs a lot of work.
